Wow! Productivity!
Nov. 9th, 2005 05:15 pmI'm not at 100% yet, but I'm spending alot more of my time and energy at work doing work - mostly because right now I have two interesting technical problems to play with, no documentation! And tomorrow, more of same - I get to sit with our installing guys and pick their little brains clean of any and all information about the product they are installing - by my own suggestion! Yay!
Anyone know much about the RedHat Certificate System, btw? I need more than "yeah I've heard of it" - I'm deep in the bowels of it just now. Yes, it's a product that has bowels.
Had a wonderful night last night with
jezebelpussycat - we just finished the Sabha Slokum - another little gem from the Abhinaya Darpana's quotable verse list. A good first abhinaya peice. We are humming right along into something a little more meaty - Yaare bandaravu by Purandaradasa. I was touched that Jezebel remembered me having done it. It's nice to think my peices are that discrete and that memorable.
Snuck out and had sashimi (yum!) afterwards. Needed a little break, brought a new book (whee! a fun book!) and had myself some Ohitashi (yay! iron!) and a little sashimi platter. Splurged on some Toro Sashimi and some mochi.
Came home and was dutiful - balanced checkbook, paid 3 bills. More bills coming, but if I knock down a few a night, I don't feel like I'm slaving away at it, and I'm catching up.
Treated myself to more work on the Flamenco dress. Dress body is done, pressed, and the interfacing is pressed onto all the parts that need it. Ready to put ruffles on sleeves.
Had small panic attack - realized on the way in that I have not prepped for Seraglio yet. And it's not just packing. I'm teaching 2 classes - sari draping (could teach in sleep!), and a class on beauty and love in Indian classical dance. You could vaguely call it sringara but it is both more technical than the all encomassing idea that is sringara, and it is less than the entirety of how sringara can be conveyed. I'm certainly not master enough to do a one hour class on "sringara" - I don't think it can be done, the topic is too big.
But, I think I can fake it. My anal retentive side wants to make really spiffy handouts for this class, with all sorts of pictures and kean documentation on historical stuff. But I just don't have the time. Instead, an outline of major points with a listing of movements to jog the student's memory will just have to suffice. That's about standard for an SCA Middle Eastern dance class...
Tonight, I go home to meet with Pinky Petite - the shortest of our dancers - for the duet choreography for Axis. Now is a good time to begin begging - if you live in Boston... please consider seeing us a week from Thursday! The Baby Dolls are stronger than ever, and we will have all new peices. We would love to see you!
Moment of reflection - although sometimes I feel greedy, having a house all by myself. And sometimes I feel scared, when things go really wrong with the house... right now, I couldn't be happier. Having a room only for dance, that two people can work in somewhat comfortably, and one can work in quite happily is a real blessing right now. With dance peices be made every month, sometimes as groups of 2-4 people, having a room that I alone control, that I don't have to commute for, whose expense is entirely rolled into the expense of my domicile - it really helps keep me sane.
