Not going to NJ - the mom talked some sanity into me. Apparently every commercial transport route is an hour++ drive from the location of the funeral (Sparta, NJ). The closest is Newark.
And since I feel like my project will suffer if I'm out for half a day, I'm even more limited.
I thought I found flights for $138 from LaGuardia, but apparently LaGuardia is 3+ hours from Sparta. And flights to Newark are $300 with a stop in DC, $600 for non-stop. The train is around $100 or less, but long and so requires them picking me up late, late at night. There's just no winning.
Finally my mom said "why do you want to go?" - I said my reasons. And she rather passionately pointed out that I was around for him when he was alive. Even when I chose to distance myself from him, I supported my mom, and gave her strength to support him. It apparently meant alot to her that I was willing to make myself nutty and tired to do this.
So... instead I'm going to take time, here in MA, to pray for him at 11:00 - the time for the memorial service. If possible, I might try to go somewhere kind of nice - like a lake or a forest or something. He liked nature.
And I'm gonna make the next NJ trip to see the family a higher priority than I have in recent years.
And I'm going to meet up with my Mom on Monday night.
So... I'll be around this weekend, if a little blah. Not sure if it will be blah because of uncle or blah because of oral surgery, or some other sort of blah.
