The mail, it comes

Got two packages today. I've been doing so much shopping and Internet ordering lately that I've lost track of what package is coming where. Anywhere it looks like I must deal with UPS gets shipped to work, as a rule, because they are such a pain about signatures. Others, if they seem to be work-questionable, get shipped home.

Incoming:
- a KVM cable for my 2nd computer. First was broken making a nasty yellow color sometimes
- a Folkwear pattern - I may go nuts and make a tango style dress if my trip to Garment District on Sunday is a wash. Have tried enough discount and second hand stores with an open mind to feel justified. Anyhow, I've always wanted the pattern, and this is a good excuse. Yay Folkwear for fast shipping - I ordered this on Monday or Tuesday.

More orders pending:
- Kama Sutra is coming from a cheap-cheap store
- yet another Geisha biography is coming (I'm such a sucker for these)
- order to www.silkconnection.com for cotton gauze and 5mm silk habatoi - they've been a real pill to mermaidlady, but I'm desperate. Dharma is out of the two things I need, and fabrics.com and discountfabrics.com don't have anything that looks close. Crossing fingers.

And, hopefully new_man got me some a head. A styrofoam one that is. As I was leaving last night, he kindly offered to grab one online as he would be heading back to his computer.

It's kind of like Christmas. But without the thinking lovingly of others or being happy with whatever I recieve... so... um... maybe not like Christmas. I think I'd panic if I saw a Santa Claus just now...

What's happened with Silk Connection? They've been a pest to L as well.

I don't know. At first I thought it was that we were different types of customers - I would usually use them only when doing bulk orders with many participants - they started as a very bulk-oriented business with phone-in calling and a rather crappy website. MermaidLady uses them mostly for small orders - enough for a single project or so. So... I thought they might be jerky to the "little guys", but I wonder if they aren't just becoming jerks in general.

They used to be just awesome. I had a number of go-rounds with a customer rep years ago that were frustrating and confusing, due to the crappy website, and she was simply lovely - we got it all straightened out and had ourselves a chuckle. But reports of much less confusing issues make it sound like they are gruff and downright rude.

You know, I have Folkwear's Tango Dress in pieces somewhere. It's red silk chiffon. I wonder if I could get it finished in time... Ah, it's probably too sheer.

Don't go to the mall. Filene's is decorated in BOTH Halloween and Christmas. No Santa yet, but the trees are up.

I have no problems at all with Christmas - after Halloween!

Years ago I used to work retail (my first career). Anyway I remember one year they wanted me to put up the christmas decorations before Halloween. I had a HUGE argument with my district manager. I won. But, I ended up having to work on halloween and stay late in the store and come in early the next day so that on Nov. 1st when the store opened we not only had the decorations up but we were playing the music.... Yes, we got one tape and had to play it from Nov. 1st until closing on Dec 24.

I love Christmas, it's one of my favorite holidays. But it comes after Halloween.... In fact for me it comes after Thanksgiving.

Exactly. I'll admit that I don't need any Turkey Day kitch, or presents or anything like that - so retail is free to stock Christmas right after Halloween. I even admit that waiting until after Thanksgiving to start Xmas shopping is sheer madness. But - eesh - Halloween needs stuff. It's a costume/prop/decoration heavy holiday. Bring it on retail! And... for the love of god! Make more standalone devil heads! we clearly have a shortage.
