Went to see it last night along with a nice gang of six friends. Would like to remind myself that seeing a movie in Loews on the Common costs $30 - $20 for parking, $11 for movie. I may angle for a cheaper option in the future... I love this Loews... but for $30, I can get theater tickets.

Or maybe it's just the movie. I didn't hate it, but I didn't love it. Some parts are quite good. Wherever did they get the absolutely humungous ape? And one that could act, too. But... it's 3+ hours long. If you're gonna keep me in my seat from 8-11:15, it had better be worth it. I found this one a tad too long - there were at least a couple scenes which I thought when on or were repeated a lot too long. Rather as though the director had a favorite gimmick or special effect that he just *had* to use, over and over. Like when a 4-year-old keeps telling you the same joke, 10 times, because they think it is SO funny. But I don't have to give the 4-year-old $11 for the privilege.

But... if someone got ambitious with the cutting, and got the movie an hour shorter - it might be a nice, tight film.

Got home, a little later than wished for, and finished up Baby Doll prep - new elastic in bikini top, hair removal festival, bath. I got really ambitious and cleaned the bathroom, too. It's all nice now. Upsettingly, the hot water for the cleaning used up all the hot water, so my hair washing portion of bathing was done with cold water. Should that happen? I probably used two bathtubs worth of hot water, between cleaning and starting to bathe? Should I be worried about my hot water heater.

The morning came, and final prep and pack. Got clothes, got shoes, got makeup, got the all-important toupee tape, got pasties, got the Red Bed, even got my iron to iron the ever-crinkly red dress. So far, nothing forgotten. Did a run through of each peice - it's all good. Let it Snow finally got into shape, I'm feeling good. Phew!

I used to go to boston common because I could T there. Park somewhere free onthe red line and T in that last bit ? I find that easier on the nerves as well as the pocket.

The challenge is the clock. I work in Needham, so the closest line there is green line. Red line is about 1/2 an hour (at best) away. Conversely, I live near the Red line, making the green line about 1/2 an hour away. Plus the waiting for a T to come. In general, I'd have to add an hour, either entering or leaving the city to make a T-solution feasible.

On the weekend, the scene changes - I live near the red line, I can drop and pickup my car reasonably close to home... then Loews becomes a much lovier option.

Conversely, I like that theatre, in part, because it is so T accessible, easily from the Green or Red lines. But yeah, having to park down there would be grim. The Common garage is probably the best bet.

Overall, I'm a bit surprised that I liked the movie. I have many problems with it, and agree that some of the bug and dino scenes could have been removed with no loss of continuity. I also haven't sussed out how physics works in that universe, because it's nothing like in ours. And Ann Darrow would have died of exposure after several hours outside in sub-freezing temps wearing only a flimsy sleeveless gown. Assuming she didn't die from the hundreds of times her neck should have snapped from the sudden movements while she was being carried. But the gorilla was cute.

Yeah.. the physics of the female anatomy fail to be analyzed in this movie. I managed to theorize that perhaps she didn't freeze to death because she was cuddling with a giant gorilla. If a regular gorilla is warm, perhaps a giant gorilla is even warmer? But... then again, he's from the tropics, too, why didn't Kong freeze to death?

I won't say I hated it. I kind of liked it... liked in that that I'm glad I did that entire social outing, the movie didn't detract from it. But not "liked it" in that I'd need to see it again on matinee or even on video. Not sure what I'd do if it came up on cable for free.... once may be exactly enough.

The water didn't start cool - it started quite hot. But after a certain amount of volume had been expended, the hot became cold.

Thanks for the movie update. I've been trying to decide if I wanted to go see it or not. I think I'm going to wait for it to come on TV.

Hot Water

Your hot water heater is battling with the cold like everything else. I'd suggest calling NStar or Keyspan -- whomever is providing your gas -- and have them come in and do a free energy audit. They'll insulate the tank for free and do some other stuff. There's also a little red thermostat on the hot water tank. You can adjust the temperature of the water (hotter water means it lasts longer when diluted with cold), but doing so will increase your heating bill.

You need to be careful with this. You don't have kids so it's probably not a problem but it can be turned up too much and burn you.

Also be careful of washing your clothes, you now will be washing in hotter water and my shrink clothes. I know this because I'm doing some felting projects and my old house didn't have water up that hot and felting was unsuccessful. My parents kept theirs very hot and felting was fun.

Right... I do not need mini-clothes. It's hard enough finding Glamazon sized clothes! ;)

wow! burning the midnight oil?!? I am continually impressed with your stamina - No cleaning at the Nerdchik house ever gets done after 8PM. Mr. Nerd might tidy up, but that is my pumpkin hour...

Your energy is awesome! (And I wouldn't worry 'bout the water heater unless you have an extra large one...)
