Thankfullness
Dec. 12th, 2005 04:10 pmAs the day of Blue Monkey Present Giving Day approaches, it seems like it is time to emerge from recent funks and give thanks. Well... ok, maybe I'm more selfish than that, and I'm just having a great day.
Wow... so many reasons. All of a sudden, a nexus of stuff has hit to make me quite happy:
- Project done, class 6 hours away from being definitely done - nothing new, but I'll be basking in that glory for a while. I intend to extend basking for maybe 6 months.
- Meenakshi got a Writ - i.e. a writ of summons inviting her to join the Order of the Laurel.* Thus... the surprise has hit, now she's just scheduling the party. That's apparently the Outlands custom. I'm thrilled. She is absolutely my peer, and I said as much to her Laurel at Pennsic, who told me that she was already under discussion. I'm booking plane tickets to Colorado, and pondering Padme's wise thought that we make a little something as a Laurel present. Which "we"? No idea... if you'd like to be in on the "we" let me know... yes, I might be up for some sort of long-distance collective insanity.
- Aparna is home!!! and ready to resume classes. Just as I was getting into a funk. And just as I finish up my current insanity!! yay! What good timing.
- Seeing King Kong Wednesday - no... it's not quite a Write of Summons... but you wouldn't believe how long it's been since I spent an entire night just hanging out with friends.
- Socialized yesterday for brunch, and saw the newly returned Miss Lady Sprite.
- Miss Lady Sprite reminds me we were gonna try yoga classes. Perhaps having her (and no school) will get me going on this in the New Year.
- Old project revived. I'll count my chickens when they hatch. But after 7 months of *nothing* we have a resurrected interest in my previous project. I will hear more soon. This may mean more travel next year - if I end up on the project, I may be doing some of the installations. But it's all very undecided.
- An offer of free geeky books. It totally rocks to have a friend who works at O'Reilly. It's like pumping crack right into the vein.
- Reservations at Masala Art - a restaraunt in Needham, MA that does Indian yuppie food. By that I mean they do great flavors, a huge menu, fabulous wine, great service, and they make a big deal about healthy cooking (low fat, good veggies, quality all-round, etc). For years they've had a prix fix Spice Bar, where you go and a chef makes a meal according to your requests and teaches you about Indian cooking. This has become my new favorite restaraunt, and Padme and I will be going as a first/last term celebration - the end of her first term of college in a few years, the end of my last term.
Soo... life is looking up today with good things in work, social life, school, dance, and friends' lives. So, and all-round winner of a day.
*The Order of the Laurel is an SCA award for excellence in research & recreation of a given topic. It includes research skills, technical execution talents, and good character. You need to not only be a snazzy geek, but also to inspire those who come in contact with you. The award is recommended by anyone, polled for through those who already have the award, and final decisions are made by the King and Queen of a given area. In short, it's a big deal, and one which typically takes 3-20 years to acheive. The average is probably 10 years.

Date: 2005-12-13 03:02 pm (UTC)And they have a Saturday 12:00 and 1:00 that work, sometimes.
Wednesday is probably better, as January is likely to be incredibly busy on the weekends...
