Let's see...

Most of the weekend was consumed by GNE war. Due to the heat, we all moved slow, which gave me the feeling of being constantly on the move, while getting things done very slowly. Highlights, and low lights:
- car battery drained - got it jumped after much frustration on Saturday revolving around car battery placements, jumper cables, and having been slightly camped in.
- plotting and scheming accomplished - lots of making sure all are on same page about various doings.
- finalization of plans with VDK and Padme - yay! It's a go, waiting on a date from Lucan
- taught dance class to hot & sweaty dancing ladies
- entered A&S exhibition, got a nice token from Queen.
- did some shopping - a circle skirt for modern dancing, a blue wax resist wall hanging for Pennsic, a silk/linen/wool blend insta-shawl, and choli fabric for Eleanor.
- had a bit of dancing time
- had some time with [livejournal.com profile] new_man later evening.
- got choli mockup cut and partly sewn for Eleanor, and initial choli pattern defined for Constance.
- had heat/caffeine/tired headache that took me out for 40 minutes on Saturday
- got a very nice compliment - "the best thing about Lakshmi is that not only is she a great dancer, but she takes the lovely ladies around who are looking for something to do and teaches THEM to dance. So she's not just one great dancer, she makes more". I thought that was wonderful. What a nice thing to be seen as contributing. And a nice compliment to my dancing ladies, too.
- helping Darostar find their sheep
- seeing a ton of friends - located both near and far from me, that I don't get to see nearly enough. The bummer - STILL not seeing nearly enough of them.

The trip home sticks out as well - [livejournal.com profile] new_man, [livejournal.com profile] mermaidlady, [livejournal.com profile] rufinia and myself caravaned back in two cars, stopping at Flatbread for wonderful pizza in Portsmouth, NH - for a very late lunch. Flatbread is a new age pizza shop - wholesome ingredients, happy staff, funky rustic decoration - I've heard about it for years from [livejournal.com profile] new_man and [livejournal.com profile] mermaidlady, so it was great to finally experience it. It also made me happy to think that we are no longer in a time of new acquaintance-ship where 90% of the stories are things I've never done or seen - as was the case when they told me about Flatbread. I just put it on the pile of yet-another-thing-I-haven't-done. Now, I figure into a fair number of their stories, and they into mine. And many of the omigod-this-is-so-cool stuff has been shared, and often shared again. I like having people in my life like that. It is a rare and special thing.

On the way back, I made everyone go to an Indian new age kitch store - all sorts of hippie-dippie garments, statues, jewelry, etc. Folksy/artsy stuff. Except for a rare treasure - a 3-tiered SE Asian umbrella. For $50!!! An instant win. I have a cloth umbrella with Indina motifs and a certain wonderful level of dorkiness, but this is even better. Speaking as a complete geek - this isn't perfect for me - I really am stealing a bit from the Thai. We have umbrellas, but not the multi-tiered ones. But it was too damn cool.

Explains the current Thai umbrella system. 5, 7, and 9 tiers are reserved for Royal Court people. I think a Baroness ought to be able to handle 3 tiers without fear of seeming uppity. I can't find a picture of such, so you'll just have to see me and my ostentatious umbrella at Pennsic.

Utter fate brought [livejournal.com profile] new_man and I out to see Charlie & The Chocolate Factory. We were both tired, and planned to stay home, but at the last minute, both really wanted to go out and be with the gang and see it. So, we got going at 7:20, and in a feat of preparation and driving fortune, got to the theater in time to pick up the tickets bought for us, grab soda and be in our seats just in time for the previews. Felt a bit like a movie star with that trick. Thanks to Christian for grabbing us tickets.

The movie was... something. Not awful. Not fabulous. I remember Gene Wilder's version only in a vague sense. It was the kind of movie played on rainy camp days, and days of substitute school teachers. It didn't have the impact on me it had some some of my friends. But... well... this movie didn't do it justice, IMO. It sure was pretty, and the Oompa Loompas rocked. But Johnnie Depp was creepy in a sadistic bastard sort of way, and the movie expected you to feel sorry for him, but the way he was played was too creepy, and too emotionless to pull at my heart strings. I cared far more for Charlie and his family. [livejournal.com profile] new_man did a review that I generally agree with in his journal, although I am perhaps not as passionate about it as he is - I think the original book had a more profound impact on him, than the movie did on me.

Well... the panic cloud is forming, so it's time to make a list and possibly drop some stuff. Current Pennsic to-dos in no order:

- Friday - car maintenance - add battery problem, creaking sounds, and car clicker issue to the docket.
- Tuesday - cavity re-filling. Pray this works.
- Saturday night - dancing ladies at 8:00 - should plan maybe one more practice after this, and then it's Pennsic-time.
- Choli for Eleanor
- help Constance with next choli steps
- Today - homework due
- Sometime this week - the #@%@#$%#@ing final for school
- iron, iron, iron
- check out wardrobe, and wash as needed
- check out choli supply. Wistfully ponder sewing a few cholis for myself.
- make packing list
- new air mattress?? This one leaks so that I end up with a body part touching the ground by the end of the night.
- dye hair so it is 1 color, not 3-4 variations of brown and gray
- finalize Padme ceremony
- figure out dancing lady doings
- check out CD of music - Take II - and get Li to burn me many copies
- bug Eleanor about DVD doings
- do pictures for handouts
- final edit and review of handouts
- print and organize handouts

I feel like there's more, but this is all that comes up now. Thank goodness journals are editable.

Things to be thankful for - this is the first year after two years, where I get to go to Pennsic WITHOUT a class pending when I get back. In the GD corporate schedules, we have a class running over Pennsic, so I typically come back, have more class and do the finals week. So, I should be thankful this pain will only last for a week.
