A Laurel's Prize Tourney has been posted in Bergental (Springfield, MA)
http://members.verizon.net/~vze3wwx7/LPT/LPT_Challenges.htmlI was recently thinking about Carolingia's last year, and things I might like to throw out there if the idea came up again, and now here's an opportunity. But it's my birthday weekend, and I'm not sure I really want to do this the day before my birthday, especially if my birthday is a Sunday!
Was thinking several thoughts of Prize Tourney motivations based on recent classes:
- Dance + Storytelling - any culture - bring a dance peice that has some aspect of emotion or storytelling. Preferably medieval or traditional music. Bonus points for finding a relevant cultural reference to this style of performing arts in the region. Focus - ability to convey meaning, even when dealing in a foreign song, or with foreign movements.
- Sringara Display - bring a work of art, in a Indian style, that handles the subject of sringara - painting, sculpture, dance, poetry, storytelling - any art is welcome. It just must attempt to create or replicate something Indian and pre-1600, and include the topic of erotic love.
I'd hope that these might be good challenges - something that is a stretch for an artist, but not impossible - and open ended enough to not be too exclusive. As I understand it, the idea of a Laurel's Challenge is for a Laurel to put out some topic they give valuable feedback on, to folks who are NOT necessarily well-known in the arts, via a directed project.
But... I'm not so sure that this is the right time for me to try it... the Birthday Weekend thing is a real conflict.
