Why is it?
Apr. 13th, 2005 10:03 amThat just when you sign up to do something, 20 more ideas pop into your head?
This time, it's Pennsic. No sooner did I post last night about doing the 5 day "Sweating with Lakshmi" class (as I've been calling it in my head), then I had the following:
- choreograph goofy Bollywood duet, either guy and girl, or girl and girl.
- do a "dancer's group" at Pennsic. The idea being an imitation of what I hear about writer's groups - where people bring a peice and the others provide constructive feedback. It seems like it might be cool for me, and the other solo dancers at Pennsic to do something like that. It could be 2-4 days before the Pennsic ME Expo, with the idea that if you are doing the expo, this would be a good chance to learn the stage, get some thoughts, and work out the jitters. I suspect that many people do not actually think about doing a dry run on the actual stage, and many more are soloists who haven't had the benefit of a troupe that is willing to watch you thrash out a new choreography and offer suggestions the way my troupe is. Dry runs and dry runs in front of people, especially people who know stuff, are two very different things...
- do a "dancing your story" class. A thought I've had before. A working class where you bring a SHORT story/poetry peice/song lyrics, preferably Indian or era-non-specific, and we work out historic Indian dance choreography to go with it. I could have a dictionary of moves put together, and some thoughts on "grammer" - ie, how to string moves together, prepped ahead of time. And then we could work out a couple stories. The idea being that it's all great to have this little dictionary of dance moves recorded in ancient/medieval treatises, but that doesn't mean diddly if people don't actively use them to create new material.
- do a class on the interwoven herring bone stitch I've been playing with
- do a choli making class - which I'm not really ready for yet
Sigh... but I think this year it's still gonna be sweating with Lakshmi.
Although the little voice of overcommitment is telling me "no! do the pennsic dance group critique thing, too!". But I'll try to narrow that little demon down and beat it into a pulp....
