bethlakshmiAfter a whirlwind trip of Trivandrum, I'm off to Hampi. So this, too, will not be a long post. I just pullled all the photos of the last two trips from my camera, but don't have the time to get them on Flickr. The turnaround from one trip to the next is literally 1.5 hours.
Indian travel and I are still coming to terms with one another. I suffered from problems with heat in Trivandrum, but I'm much perkier now that I'm back in Bangalore.
In Trivandrum, I saw the southernmost tip of India - which I will find a name for soon. I stayed in what I'm pretty sure is a 4 or 5 star hotel, got toilet paper (you have NO idea how exciting that is... bidet style is the defacto Indian toilet experience) and then visited Anil's home village for 1 day. I was pretty limp by the end of all that - I don't get carsick, but the road to Anil's village made me car sick.
Now I'm back in Bangalore, and doing much better, but the Hampi trip has gone from 3 days to 5, with a return date of the 27th. I'll be going by train at 8:30 PM. I'm good with this. Train is supposed to be a comfortable (and cheaper) experience, and we will sleep on the way and stay in a friend of Aparna's house. I'll gladly take more time in Hampi - a slower trip is better, and Hampi (aka the fallen capital of Vijayanagara) has been the focus of my Lakshmi research, so more time is good.
Even better - I have new clothes! 4 new sari sets (with blouse peices) and 1 new dress are ready for me. So not only am I packed, but everything in my luggage *and* on my body is freshly clean. After sweating my way through Kerala, this is a wonderful feeling.
Plus I have new clothes. And fussy tailoring that I would not normally do myself.
I feel pretty.... oh so pretty....(insert West Side Story music here)
That's not to say I've gone totally native. Dreams in Trivandrum were filled with thoughts of home. My memory foam bed is a distant, fond memory.
