Hi gang,

Thank you for all the wonderful support in the last post, I'm really overwhelmed.

Survived first set of treatments today.
  • Did demo for VPs to much approval.  The VP that knows me best asked "why the crutches?" which was very nice of him.  I seem to stand out for him as the tall, smart, funny chic who now has crutches.
  • Saw Barry the wonder wizard.  He isn't promising anything, because he's smart that way.  It could be 6 months, it could be less.  As several people pointed out - recovery and balance training is key.  The trick is to re-educate the healing nerves, ligaments and other stuff to do what my previously trained body was capable of *before* I go trying to do crazy things.
  • Treatment with Barry did indeed involve lasers (picture me in bed using my tripataka and making the laser shooty noise) (OK, try that again with me in clothing and not posing like a pinup.  Eesh, I'm still icing my ankle!)
  • When I got to land of the Indian Gurus, they prompty got me in a chair, elevated my foot, slapped some ice on it, and handed me water - roughly in that order.  Anil pretty much sat under my foot and ripped my sock off.  I've never seen a man so eager to get my sock off before.  Unfortunately, Barry had taped me up pretty good.  But I have a new recipe for kirri (the poultices).
  • Speaking of strange Ayurvedic remedies - does anyone know where to get turmeric root (not ground, it must be the root), and also ginger oil and dried ginger?  Anything with fast shipping is good.
  • Had a lovely music class - I don't seem to have forgotten much and we forged ahead with the varnam I'm learning in Thodi Rag.  Thodi is a very lovely but heavy raga that is the most difficult I have learned yet.  And I love it's complexity - singing it feels like getting a gift.  So that was really nice.
  • Had a great dinner with the Indians
  • I'm able to put partial weight on the foot - per Barry instruction - but I'm not to walk without crutches.  I have a training regimine per Barry that is very easy going.  This is the first time (he says) that he's gotten to treat so we're hopeful.
  • Mom coming over tomorrow night.  Barry dropping by with more pills and stuff.  So the Barry will meet the Mom.  It will be ... interesting.
I'm still hitting patches of depression, but I'm pulling through more today than yesterday.  After such a fabulous night, I refuse to let myself think more about it.  I have a set schedule for music on Monday's now, which is a much easier schedule than the last 6 months of 2-3 days of Indian dance + 1-2 days of Burlesque, so I'm also thinking of such crazy things as being home and seeing more of all my friends.

Penzey's has "dried sliced ginger root pieces"; they're in Arlington. Christina's Spice in Inman Square might have some of that stuff -- they have lots of obscure products.

Any Ayurvedic medicine shop or supplier will have all of these things. If you have Ayurvedic practitioners there and a city the size of Boston, there should be an Ayurvedic supplier. Any large Indian grocer that also sells Ayurvedic medicine will also have these things. Whole turmeric roots and whole or ground dried ginger root will be easy. You can make ginger oil by steeping chopped fresh ginger in almond or sesame oil.

Shalimar has turmeric root. Not sure about the ginger stuff, but I need to go back there and can check.

Russo's in Watertown also has turmeric. As does my fridge, but I'm not sure how I'd get it to you!
