Wrathskellar and Kalari Medicine
Jul. 11th, 2009 09:01 amFirst - come see our new show - The Wrathskellar - it's a dark cabaret show, as opposed to the shiny happy Burlesque we normally do. And, in definance of all expectations, I manage to keep my clothes on for three out of the four numbers I'm in. Weird, huh? That doesn't make them not-cool or not-sexy -- but it does mean I've needed to bust out some extra skills in the process of creating the show. I'm really quite pleased with all of it.
It's happening all next week, at 8:00PM in the Arsenal Theater in Watertown. It's a lovely space with plenty of parking and bus access. Monday night has very cheap tickets - but no night is all that expensive. It's a small theater, so I suggest buying in advance. When the show gets rolling the theater will sell out quickly.
Next - a note on more Crazy Indian Medicine. For the last few weeks of depressing rain, rain, rain my knees have been utterly pissed off. All the dance practice doesn't help, and it was getting bad enough for me to be doing knee wraps. Well - Anil proscribed a poultice. I think this may be the first time in my life I ever tried a poultice. The recipe was turmeric, ginger (fresh or dried), black pepper (only a little) and coriander. Course grind the spices and put them in a square of cotton. Boil the conglomeration in oil. Apply as hot as you can stand to pained area.
I think it actually helped. After only a few days, the knees are feeling better.
Unfortunately, I and my kitchen are slightly greasy, yellow and smell like curry. This was charming Day 1, but by Day 4 has gotten a little old.
Lying on the floor of one's kitchen, smearing oneself with an oily yellow cotton bag, one has to admit that one may have strayed off the beaten path of American normality.
