Saw the dancing ladies last night... boy did I need that.

So... we did the first few full-takes of the Roadshow. Start to finish. The order is:

- "Rosa" song - starts with solo noodling, then a dramatic entrance from Lynne, then a paced line of dancers entering on the second repeat.

- Ayazein - I sing, 1 drum, 2 violins and the dancers start with a burst of escalating energy

- Rampi, Rampi - Anne does the first verse as a solo, Lynne and I join her for the second verse and we finish on a pose... this one is actually choreographed.

- Bin Dur Yesmet - slow, single pair of girl on girl action. ;) Anne and I start, but she quickly abandons me and a new partner joins me. I leave after a few bars... and the saga continues. We will probably formalize the pairings, so we have an order of operations and can start working out moves with our pairs.

- Manavu - a Isreali line dance. The troupe does it in a stately circle, facing out. I may try to learn to sing this... we'll see how the demonic bathroom wrap up goes...

- Yeshilim - a steady build in energy and tempo to a climatic end. I'll be singing, and seeing if I can keep pace with the music.

It's coming together pretty fast into a very neat show. We have some slow/sacred/meditative (Manavu), some sexy (Bin Dur Yesmet), high energy book ends (Ayazein/Yeshilim) and a solo + choreography (Rampi, Rampi). Nice variation. I think this can be a really great show. And, more than our other gigs, it's a "show" - it has a connection among the pieces. They, themselves, are an organization. We've always had some organization - Anne is a wiz at making a line up that allows us all to change, and yet blends group work, solos, peppy/sexy/meditative, etc, etc - to make a good presentation where no peice weakens another by it's proximity. But this one is a show. We don't do costume changes for this, so it's purely a "how do we lead the audience through this set moments?".

We started with "Live Music! Yay!!" as our raison d'etre for the Roadshow. Dancing to live music is super cool, and we wanted to incoporate the talent that was building inside and outside the troupe. That said, in the past year this show has rapidly moved from "how do we glom the songs from Rosa and Lynne together in a pleasing way and take it on the road?" to "how do we present an experience of Middle Eastern Dance?" a mugh loftier goal. I'm pretty proud of us.

I hope it'll make us even better performers all the way around.

The show is the evening of June 18th, in Natick, MA. Painfully close, as I understand, to our weekly practice. That means that I either go to Vinland Raids or I go to this. I think Roadshow is the winner. Not only am I really enjoying the singing/dancing combo, but it means that I get this + some time at home.

Will, thus, probably plan on Midsummer's Faire. That will fulfill my camping whims.

Got out choreography notes to my devadasi dancing ladies.

Going to dental specialist for inspection on whether my transplanted 13-year molar needs a root canal (this terrifies me).

No plans tonight... may work on bathroom of doom, may try to go be social somehow.

Got first installment of tuition payback from company - the cost of last semester's books came to me. Those are already paid off, as I bought them months ago. Free money! Yay! Still have the big hefty check due to me - the tuition for this semester.

I was terrified before my root canal too. While the best course of action is to avoid needing one, the actual procedure wasn't too bad. And I had Junior to hold my hand.

The worst part was the 5 weeks they needed to create and fit a crown. I remember spending a day sucking on ice to make the swelling go down to cram 2 appointments into one week so I could have it all done and finished by the Bardic Championships.
