Boy did I need that! Dance class was lovely.

We've started the process of brushing up what we call "The Roadshow". This is a mind-meld centered around Rosa and Anne, our fearless musical and dance leaders. It's best called "structured improvisation". We have two violinists and 2-3 drummers and sometimes me on voice - the live musicians figure out music and arrangement before hand. Then, Anne works with the dancers to build up improvisations to suit the mood of the music, and the general structure of the show. So it's not just improvisation, it's got structure. Stuff like "dance this one very energetic and welcoming", "dance in pairs and give 'em happy dreams", "slow and controlled", etc, etc. So that we are somewhat constrained, and yet we have freedom. I like it, but it's challenging. I dance either end of the spectrum - choreography or improv. But that middle is challenging. I naturally have chosen my own moods and am used to putting my own spin on my presentation. Being told is rather new to me. Rising to the occasion, though, is good practice. Taking direction is as important as having intiative. It's a careful balance. Or at least that's what I tell myself.

We covered 3 of our 6 planned peices for the June 18th "Hippy Chix Gig". We did:
- "the Rosa song" - forget the name, but it has the word Rosa in it. :) It's slow, and on the border between stately and seductive. It's the intro and mostly it's entrances - we've worked out something very dramatic, goose pimple raising.
- Ayazien - a very speedy rendition, high energy
- Rampi, Rampi - a karshlama beat (9 beats) - done with Anne doing solo and then Lynne and I (and Andi) joining her as backup halfway through.

We have 3 more - a line dance, Yeshilim and a slow, sensual dance we do in pairs. But we took all our time just working the first 3. That's fine. This is our first practice. We have a new drummer (huge hooray - Safiya is very cool!), and a dancer turned drummer - and this is the first practice in a while with the musicians, so we needed some mind-melding time, I think.

And then! I get home to a house that smells wonderfully of cleaning goo. Something lemony fresh. It appears that Kirsten, the new roomate, cleaned up the kitchen, and something (not sure what) upstairs, as both floors are lemony fresh. It's lovely. She piled up all the Lakshmi Droppings, and I'm now trying to find places for them. It was like a Magic Brownie came and made my house nicer. What a wonderful surprise. I'm all of a sudden really enthusiastic about her living here, and yet feeling slightly guitly about how messy I am. She *said* she doesn't mind - she likes cleaning - but if she keeps rocking at the cleaning, I'm totally gonna have to figure out how much rent to comp her. It is lovely to be able to do that... to maybe exchange money for time.

I'm so glad you had a good time at dance class last night! I did too. I had such a good time that I was totally wired and had a hard time getting to sleep.

I am still smiling all day today about the Krishna chocolates.
