I predict that if [livejournal.com profile] new_man and [livejournal.com profile] mermaidlady take this, their tastes will be wildly different and far more like each other than like mine.

Why... yes... I'm in an extremely boring teleconference right now. I would say something sarcastic about people droning on and on in one ear about technology I don't care about, have no control over and which has no connection to my goals at work - but then [livejournal.com profile] new_man would just say "welcome to my world" and look at me significantly.

There was pop in the 90s? ;)

Hey, I just noticed it's almost your birthday...

I think this is a bit skewed because they failed to list some bands that influenced me and my taste in music (what? no Alice Cooper? no Black Flag? no Queen??? I guess no Bowie because you just can't pigeonhole him), but generally accurate. I wonder what "Adult Alternative" means... The Greatest Hits of Ron Jeremy?

So, let's see...

We all have "Highest Influence" in 80's alternative and Clasic Rock -- so that's pretty similar. My problem with this quiz is that I hated almost all of the bands they put on there. Why Led Zeppelin and not The Stones or The Who? Why Peter Gabriel but not Genesis or Phil Collins? Psychedlic Furs but no Velvet Underground? And no Clapton, Mark Knopfler, or Paul Simon at all -- in any incarnation. Neither Pearl Jam nor Nirvana... just weird.

In my case, at least, it's more than a bit. So many of the groups I like weren't there, and I hadn't heard of, or wasn't familiar with the music of, many of the groups on the list.

Yeah, I have to agree. While my results weren't *totally* preposterous, they weren't very representative, either. Given the limited selection of bands (pretty much everything was top-40) and the lack of ability to distinguish between "kinda like" and "absolute favorites", the results are pretty shallow...
