Let's see...

Had a lovely dinner at Masala Art - an Indian restaraunt near my work. They feature interestingly spiced Indian dishes from all over India (and you know Indian geek that I am, I really mean that), and they tend to use better quality spices in a not so traditional arrangement. Some love it, some hate it. I love it. They also have a pretty great bartender, so I like sitting at the bar and shooting the shit with him and the waiters. Thursday seems to feature two pretty clever waiters, and then a mix of not so talktative folks, so it's a good time.

Practiced for Medicine Wheel with the dancing ladies. It's a art installation done as a vigil for the AIDS epidemic at the Boston Cyclorama December 1st. Many of our troupe have been involved in and appreciative of this yearly installation in the past, and we decided to seize the day to a ritual/presentation there this year. That's a new thing for us - we're not often so focused on ritual, as we are an interesting blend of religious beliefs, and mostly we're focused on the performing aspect of the performing arts. The peice is pretty neat, and while initially seeming simple, there's a strong need for synchronization, timing and control that I find pretty challenging. It's been a nice counterpoint to the much looser, much more "at the audience" Burlesque stuff of late.

Came home quicly to pack for Seraglio. Checklist:
- bag of clothes, personal paraphenalia, garb & normal clothes
- bag of saris for sari wrapping class
- handouts for sari wrapping, books for sringara to photo copy
- music for performing at Seraglio, music for Baby Dolls that needs some rehearasal time
- jewelry
- feast gear
- Horatio (in his halloween costume - Bat Pig)
- Sewing basket - with handwork for Flamenco dress.

Finished packing and headed for the Flamenco dress. Wednesday night had a horrible surprise. After roll hemming and assembling sleeves, I pinned them to the dress and found out I HATED them. They are tiny, tiny ruffles that only make my shoulders look bigger, and becuase of my strong shoulders, they stick out very dorkily from the sides. I really want ruffles so I enlarged the pattern, lengthing them by about 2.5 inches, and assembled another set - not hemming them this time (I'll hem later, if I have the time... fuck it, I'll be on stage) The new ruffles were better. Best yet, I put the tiny ruffles on top of the big ruffles, and Voila! I have what I originally pictured the sleeve ruffles to look like - both length and volume.

But now I'm behind. I figured:
- Wed - sleeve ruffles
- Thursday - finish ruffles, do zipper and probably do neckline facing
- Sunday - do first tier of ruffles, hopefully before Baby Doll practice, so that the dress is more or less dress-like for practice.

Now... I don't have the zipper in, nor the facing done. I'm a little worried. I brought the zipper to handsew in, in the hopes that tonight will involve some wind-down, hang-out time...

Looking forward to getting on the road - it's a 3-4 hour drive, but I have the tapes of the Kama Sutra course to drive to, and this is going to be a mini-vacation for me - I'm not bringing homework.

Tooth spot is healing well. Stitches have dissolved, and soreness is gone. I almost forgot to not chew on that side yesterday. I see the oral surgeon today.
