The Baby dolls have been a new inspiration for trying to be more girly. Not that I think being not-girly is a bad thing - be who you are. But I am in some ways still 8 years old - I dream of glittery fairy princess dresses, elaborate up-dos and magic (and shiny!) shoes. It's not that I don't like "butch" or "engineer chique" clothes, too. I just have more opportunity to wear those, and so they are common place. There's no sensible reason to get dolled up for the office, and even on Customer Day, the mode is sensible and business like. Too femmy and I'm not taken seriously.

I frequently use dance for expressing my inner-8-year-old, but now I have a whole new horizon. Plus, the whole Burlesque thing is more demanding on a feminine maintenance level - shaving, plucking, moisturizing - all things I could often forgo for Middle Eastern dance if the costume was right. And with the more opportunities, I find that I am keeping the feminine thing going regularly, rather than attacking offending body parts the day before the show, as had been de rigeur for the past few years.

So... I must stop and appreciate the incredibly impulsive and femmy thing I just did. Being haunted by a retro red dress I saw in Filene's Basement the other day, I have now procured for myself:
- a red dress (size 12!!! WOAH!)
- white strappy shoes (size 8... very weird, but they fit)
- black hose (double points - it's a size tall! Thank you, Nine West for understanding that if you are 5'10" - 6'1", that 145-195 lbs is just fine, and that you don't need the width, you need the length!! )
- a pearl necklace

And from CVS:
- shave gel
- razor
- bobby pins
- my favorite type of brush

I am now armed and ready for a night of BBQ, Swing dance and Serenity. I'm now crossing my fingers that the red in this dress does not clash with [livejournal.com profile] new_man's Zoot Suit.

Blame it on Verizon.
