Carolingian Demo
Apr. 12th, 2005 06:53 pmAha! Now I'm up to the present!
Well.. first off, let me say, that when I signed in today, and noticed the 4 comments about how sucky my picture is, I changed my picture. I see that 100X100 pixels really sucks for having any kind of picture, but here's me, in my dorky hair, doing the flute-Krishna gesture and grinning like a maniac, because I just finished a Middle Eastern Dance Expo.
So... this weekend was the Carolingian Demo. Boy was it a blast!! My favorite thing was realizing that there are other people out there actively doing ME stuff in this area. I often feel like a lone wolf around here... I love Carolingia, but we haven't had drumming at an event since KWCS in 2001 or so. The dancing ladies are always wonderful... but until recently we haven't been self-music-generating, and even now, we can't sustain a Carolingian drum circle all night... and most of the ladies (like me) have intensely busy lives. So, seeing that Safiya and Erzula are both out and about and enthusiastic was really cool!
Did some dancing. Got some compliments. Was reminded by my sore muscles the next day that I have not been practicing as seriously as I would like. I went light, IMO, and was pretty darn sore. It was the kick in the sari I needed to make sure I practiced pushpanjali the next day.

Date: 2005-04-13 01:58 pm (UTC)I think it was not so much that *I* sucked in the picture as that a whole body shot, even of a petite flower of femininity such as myself, does not do anyone justice in 100 X 100 pixels.

Date: 2005-04-13 07:02 pm (UTC)Actually, the best drummers I know are the ones who always have their drums with them... I always found that as a musician I improve most dramatically when I play with people better than me. It gives me lots of stuff to learn.
I, being a sucky drummer, forget to bring my drum most of the time, and never practice... thus, I'm not terribly surprised that I'm getting worse and worse.
