FrankenTooth continues
Jun. 7th, 2005 09:24 pmWent to see oral surgeon. Oral surgeon is nearly as cool as new roomate. New roomate wins, because she isn't likely to shoot me full of novicaine, attack my mouth and then charge me for the privilege.
Or at least she won't unless I ask nicely.
But the oral surgeon is pretty damn cool. First off, he's about my age, and seemed totally frank about exactly what we are up against - including the fact that I have two options. They are basically fast/cheap/risky and slower/expensive/high success rate/permanent. The first option, may lead to the second option. He's a doctor-geek, and I trust geeks. He related to me like a geek - explaining everything in a technical way, until I completely understood and gave me nice analogies to work with. (no,
new_man they were not food analogies - you are the only person I share food metaphors with) He seems confident that this is not a big deal, and that people do this all the time. It will be long, possibly expensive, but not too painful. It'll take 6 months in 3 phases - remove, put titanium rod in mouth, put on crown. That last one is something the dentist apparently does. And I shouldn't expect a week of recovery - just a day and then take life slow for 2 days. He apparently thinks people don't do much on weekends. He doesn't know me.
Office staff is also cool. They left me a home-message with dental insurance information, and wanted to know if I'd like to book now. Very competent, very on the ball.
It does my heart good to think there's another set of people in the universe that take their jobs seriously and do a good job at both being kind and being diligent.
